|
|
I've been reading a lot about Tatang Ilustrisimo and his students, and I've watched and enjoyed videos with Tatang and his students performing.
I really like the videos of GM Yuli Romo and hope to get a chance to meet him in person one day.
But for now I'm 'stuck' in Germany, thousands of miles away from the P.I., and I wandered if you could tell me a little more about ZuBu Kali Ilustrisimo - and how it differs from the Kali Ilustrisimo of the other students of Tatang Ilustrisimo.
Best Regards,
Alex |

Hi Alex!
Here's GM Yuli's reply:
"We differ in the system but in principle we're the same with other Kali Ilustrisimo.
The baHad Zu'Bu armament comprises - Kali Ilustrisimo (GM Antonio 'Tatang' Ilustrisimo), Repikada Pigada (Soferino "Kapitan Perong" Cabigting Borinaga) and Asdang Sikit System (close-encounter, Yuli Romo Concept )."
- GM Yuli Romo

hey Alex, I recommend purchasing the Zu'bu Ka'li Ilustrisimo DVD, it's an hour long and full of awesome footage of GM Yuli with his instructors and students, well worth the ££ ! plus at the beginning is a sequence showing GM Yuli performing 'The Dance of the Juramentado'
cheers,
Doug

First of all, thanks for the reply
Any chance you could tell me more about Borinaga (Repikada Pigada) and Romo Concept? - Or compare it to other styles I might know?
(Cause here in Germany, you really dont see a lot of Kalis Ilustrisimo or the interpretations of Tatangs students.. we have no Guros here who studied under any of them. Peter in the UK would be the closest and I didnt get a chance to meet him yet.)
@oosh: I allready sent Peter a PM a few days ago .. just waiting for his response |

In addition to bro lad'ya...
A lose translation of GM Yuli's reply:
"Repikada Pigada is the system of SOLFERINO "KAPITAN PERONG PAK-AN" BORINAGA eskrima expert of white beach island (you may read his story on Cebu Eskrima Society's website, http://cebueskrima.s5.com/custom3.html). Losely translated, repikada meaning multiple and pigada meaning close-quarter)
Repikada Pigada comes into play in our serrada-abierta (and transitions), bio-stick, baraw sugbu and tungkod."
A quote from the article THE HEROES OF CEBUANO ESKRIMA (Cebu Eskrima Society's website):
"The only living master of Kapitan Perong’s system called Repikada Pegada Eskrima is Yuli Romo who teaches the style as supplementary lessons to Ka’li Ilustrisimo." |

Hi,
How do you contrast this with the Taob/Tihaya concept?
