Combat Principles (of Silat Mubai)

Attack The Attack (ATA) - Destroy the problem at the source by destroying the arm, leg, fist or any other part of the enemy that is immediately offending you. If he swings a knife at you cut his arm off. Simple understanding.

Attack By Deception (ABD) - The Prophet (PBUH) said "War is deception". When attacking the enemy never allow him the pleasure of knowing where or when you will strike. Deceive and destroy.

Weapon And Body Together (WABT) - Whether you are working with a knife, gun, stick or any other weapon always use your whole body to attack. Like a sword running through an opponent, it moves in one motion. Your body and your weapons work together.

Tactical Disengagement (TDE) - In hostile environments where multiple enemies are the reality and capture is not a possible option TDE is absolutely necessary. This is the art of finishing (killing or maiming) an enemy and creating distance between you and the enemy in order to reduce their ability to restart their hostility against you. This security measure protects you physically from their attacks unless they are using firearms in which case you are in immediate danger of losing your life even at a distance and thus justified in killing them.

Expectation Of Combat (EOC) - The greatest advantage of an attacking enemy is that of surprise. Keeping the enemy in the back of your mind 24/7 is the key to minimizing the effects of a surprise attack. If you walk around like a headless chicken expecting nothing your are seriously at risk of loosing the surprise battle. Imam Ali (RA) said "Constantly live on the battlefield", that is to say be aware and keep your eyes open for combat around every corner. This is not paranoia but rather mental conditioning that eventually becomes unconscious and effortless.

Extreme Violence of Action (EVA) - Violence in your movement brings out the warrior spirit and creates the necessary mental state to gain victory over the enemy. Without this most important key all your "fight" becomes like a poodle playing with a bear when your staring at a merciless killer and it's time to employ the skills you have trained for real.

Exploitation Of Terrain (EOT) - The ability to use the environment to aid you in defeating the enemy is a skill commanders have sought out and trained for many thousands of years. Use your surroundings to destroy the enemies mobility, sight, ballistic capability and other important aspects that could give them a degree of advantage over you. Understanding how to use the environment is as important as any physical knife or gun skill you acquire.
